The Worcester Saxons is a Men’s Inclusive team set up in January 2019 in Worcester by Andrew McDonough, as founder and chair, and Dr Samuel Tong as treasurer.

The team is associated with the Worcester Rugby Football Club (WRFC), who pursue the outlook of ‘One family, one club.’ This association (and our home) has enabled the Saxons to continually develop as rugby players, and provides an example of welcome cohabitation between people of different sexual orientation and identities.

The Saxons’ continue to grow, with ongoing recruitment from the LGBT+ community, including those who wish to return to rugby in a safe and welcoming environment. As a Club, people from all walks of life are embraced, all bound by the love of the sport.

We have been networking with IGR teams across the world in anticipation of continuing to foster good relations with them. This included an IGR Pride tournament this October, as well as regular highlighting of IGR news and events on our social media platforms.

The Worcester Saxons have enjoyed the first part of the journey and are excited to be able continue it as part of the IGR. We are dedicated to being an Inclusive rugby team, based on mutual respect and that welcomes everyone.

We believe in Inclusivity and Diversity and can whole heartedly say that without our brothers, coaches, sponsors and allies at Worcester Rugby Club, we would not be the ‘One Club’ that we are.
We’re part of the North Mids League and as of February 2020, the International Gay Rugby League, South UK Division. We have fixtures lined up across the UK and are planning games and tournaments when the new season commences in January 2021 with two teams; Our Worcester Saxons Original Team (2019/2020) and Second Team (2020).

We benefit from playing alongside our brothers within the Worcester rugby club, in the teams shown below, to gain experience and build on training technique. Saxons have risen through the ranks into all but one of the teams below, demonstrating how our club and coaching caters for and encourages all of its players to train and rise through the ranks in rugby
