Charleston Hurricanes Women’s RFC

The Charleston Hurricanes Women’s Rugby Football Club was founded in 2003 with the same goals we have today: promote the sport of rugby in the south, increase women’s participation in the sport and represent the fine city of Charleston, South Carolina.

When we first started, we did not have enough players to field a 15’s side and so we teamed up with the Savannah Shamrocks every year to play full games. This meant travelling to and from Savannah for games and practices, and having half of our team in another city 2 hours away!

Today, our team has grown to almost 50 rostered players. As rugby becomes more well-known and interest has grown, so has the skill level. The Hurricanes have proven to be a force in the South, taking 2nd place overall in the South Regional play offs in Spring 2014, 3rd in our Geographic Union in 2018, and placing in multiple Summer 7’s tournaments in 2017.

Practice is held Monday and Thursday nights from 7:00- 9:00 PM at the turf field at the Citadel in downtown Charleston. Come ruck with us!
