Return to main News page

A message from IGR Secretary, Neil Pyper:

In January 2017, the two-year term for our IGR Regional Representatives will draw to a close and on behalf of the IGR Trustees, I would like to thank all of those involved for their hard work this term. Nominations are now open to find our Representatives for the next term, which starts in February.

The Trustees are seeking individuals with a passion and determination to take IGR into an exciting new chapter. These individuals may be existing Reps who wish to stand again or new applicants from our member clubs with experience in a supportive role.

To nominate an individual who you believe is suitable for this role in accordance with our new IGR Regional Rep Job Description, please email their full name, club name, the area for which you are nominating them (see list below) along with a brief description of your reasoning for the nomination to trustees@igrugby.org, no later than Midnight GMT on Sunday 22nd January 2017. Receipt of all nominations will be acknowledged by return email from myself as IGR Secretary.

In addition, the Trustees are adding a new due diligence check and will be seeking approval and support for each nominee from their own member club. This will be in the form of a letter of support from the club's committee / board.

In the event that a particular position is contested, the member clubs of that particular region will select their new Rep in a vote at the end of January.

Background to change

The past two years have seen phenomenal change within our community, with a total of 22 new clubs being formed, 14 of which have formed in 2016 alone, making this the most successful year for new clubs ever! The next two years will be a time of exciting new challenges for our organisation, a time when we will need to create and maintain a strong support network for our 62+ member clubs around the world moving forward.

The Trustees believe it is essential that every individual member of our organisation feels a part of the IGR family, with access to help and advice upon request at any level. As such, the following changes will be made:

Each region will be appointed a dedicated Trustee for direct developmental and support purposes. By doing this, we hope that our incoming Regional Representatives (RRs) will feel that they have a formal support mechanism at all times, as we work with our rapidly expanding membership base.

In addition, we are introducing new RR positions, taking our total from eight to eleven this term, reflecting the recent expansion in our community. These RRs will be responsible for the following areas:

1. England
2. Celtic
3. France
4. Continental Europe (excl. France)
5. North America North
6. North America East
7. North America South
8. North America West
9. Southern Hemisphere
10. World Barbarians
11. IGR Women's

We are very excited to be introducing a representative for Women's Rugby for the first time in the history of IGR, a representative whose role will be like that of the World Barbarians Rep. They will be responsible for the development of the Women's game by communicating with our Women's teams and individual female club members around the world and working with their designated Trustee to develop Women’s Rugby within IGR as a whole.

22 January Midnight GMT:
Nominations close

W/C 23 January:
IGR Secretary Neil Pyper to approach all nominees to ask if they are willing to stand. The Trustee for each Region to contact their clubs to confirm that they are happy for the individual to stand.

29 January:
If there are no contested positions, the new RRs will be announced. If there are contested positions, voting will open. Voting will be via an email ballot to trustees@igrugby.org.

12 February, Midnight GMT:
Voting closes

13 February:
Neil Pyper will confirm votes with the Trustees

14 February:
Regional Reps for 2017-2019 will be announced

On behalf of the Trustees, good luck to all nominees and we look forward to an exciting two years ahead.
